About the Item

Exceptional set of 4 'Demountable' armchairs produced by Sellerie Bouix, Tunis 1920. In this "Luxury" version, this safari-style armchair is available in burgundy leather. The beech base is stabilized by two heavy spacers in gray lacquered metal, leather straps reinforce the seat. Originally invented for officers of the English army, many versions of this armchair were designed by great designers throughout the 20th century. Among the customers of these "Demountable" armchairs, the period leaflet cites Elsa Chiapparelli, Man-Ray, ambassadors, viscounts, dukes, composers, ship commanders. Very good original condition.
