Set of Four Louis XVI Giltwood Chairs, Circa 1780

About the Item

An exceptional set of four gilt Louis XVI chairs, comprising of two armchairs and two side chairs, circa 1780. The chairs are hand-carved and finished in gilt laid over gesso. Beautifully proportioned, the arms end with a flourishing scroll and curve down onto a neoclassical pilar resting on combination dice, each side with a floral decoration. Running through the d-shaped belt, sides and back-rest is a fine and deep carving ,featuring a twirling laurel and oak leaf pattern, set off by four elegantly tapering column legs and carved ribbed finials.
