Set of Six Geometric Art Deco Armchairs from Chinese Embassy in Paris circa 1928

About the Item

This incredible set of six (6) Chinese Embassy Art Deco dining armchairs were originally from the Chinese Embassy in Paris, from circa 1920s, and held by a Madison Ave, NYC, collector in its current, original finish until our recent acquisition. This set would benefit from restoration which we can do for you, contact us for details. The geometric shape and silhouette allow these to be used in a Postmodern room or Art Deco, the period which they were originally made. The detail on these chairs are amazing. We were planning to restore prior to listing - but we could not decide on what to do - whether to keep the original colors or to change it - and the seats and seat backs have slots for seat and seat back cushions - we could not decide what fabric to use as well. So we decided to list these for a low price to allow the buyer to decide on what colors, fabrics, and details for restoration. The shape of the seat back is incredible, and the seat back has an emblem which probably coordinated with the Chinese Embassy's office in which these were used. The carved wood trim details go around the back, arms, seat, and legs. These Art Deco arm chairs would work great in an Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern or Danish modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Postmodern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, or Classical room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as side chairs, dining, cafe or breakfast table chairs, bedside chairs, fireside chairs, dressing or changing room chairs, hallway chairs, entryway or mudroom chairs, nursing or reading chairs, conference room chairs, office or desk chairs, guest chairs, lobby chairs, lounge chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting.
