About the Item

Combined two single arm chairs executed in 1996 by Shao Fan. Made of catalpa and elmwood. He has designed furniture which represents art rather than being purely functional. Each chair he designed stands as an individual work of art. the script on the back rest is a passage from the Confucian classic the book of changes specifically from the Great Commentary { Dazhaun } section. It discusses the relationship between Heaven and Earth, the interaction of yin and yang and the creation of all things. Internationally renowned, Shao is the first modern Chinese artist to be exhibited in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. As a social expressionist, a modernized furniture designer inspired by ancient works, a sculptor and a talented painter, Shao Fan is the emblem of China’s modern transformation.
