About the Item
Transformable armchair attributed to Schinkel, circa 1825
A large wingback chair with adjustable footrest, Biedermeier, probably based on designs by K.F. Schinkel (Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Neuruppin 1781–1841 Berlin), Berlin, circa 1825/35.
Mahogany finely carved with palmettes, rosettes, and decorative friezes. The rectangular seat features delicate bolsters and a retractable footrest on saber legs with casters. The high, tapered backrest features side wings and upholstered, distinctively rolled armrests.
