Victorian Horseshoe Back Chesterfield Green Leather Captains Reading Chair

We are delighted to offer for sale this very large Victorian 1860 solid mahogany framed with Chesterfield buttoning and aged green leather upholstery Horseshoe library reading captain’s chair A very grand and well made piece, these first came to life as an office prayer chair, you could turn around and resting your arms on the back rest put your hands together and pray, as a side effect the chairs became exceptionally popular due to them being so comfortable The frame is solid hand-carved mahogany, it’s been dowelled internally to add rigidity and protect the frame, these types of chairs, as they are so large always have a little play but this one is in good form, the seat base is a period coil sprung affair, everything is hand nail tacked in place using antiqued studs, really truly amazing We have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished it from top to bottom, the chair has had castors before but they were removed at some point, I can fit Victorian porcelain castors for £40 or new chrome or brass for the same fee. Dimensions: Height 90cm Width 76cm Depth 69cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
