About the Item
Spectacular large armchair,early 20th century or late 19th century
Antique wicker wing chair. With very high backrest and very wide seat, throne type. The height of the backrest is reminiscent of that of the old English Pub seats, even the woven seats in rattan or wicker to shelter shepherds in the UK
It comes from a large house on the north coast of Spain. It is preserved in perfect condition, but it has the precious patina of the passing of the years, which together with its large dimensions, make it an almost unique piece.
Surely it will be of local origin, that is to say Spanish, although due to its dimensions it could also be English. During the entire Victorian period and later the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The Spanish North Coast with places like San Sebastian and Santander were favorite vacation cities for the Upper Burgesia and for the Nobility, not only Spanish, but also from the rest of Europe, along with places like Biarritz in France or Cornwall in England.
Much of the furniture of those great houses or summer mansions were jewels that are difficult to find and that evoke an aesthetically precious period as is the case with
this rattan or wicker high chair
