Viennese Secessionist Wicker Armchair By Wilhelm Schmidt For Prag-Rudniker, 1908

About the Item

A rare and exceptionally beautiful Viennese Secessionist wicker armchair designed by Wilhelm Schmidt (1845-1938). Produced by Prag-Rudniker Korbwarenfabrik, Austria, 1908. Prague-Rudnik Wickerwork was considered one of the largest manufacturers of wickerwork products worldwide. Schmidt was head designer of the Prague-Rudnik Wickerwork Manufactory. He had previously studied under Josef Hoffmann at (1870–1956) at the Vienna Arts and Crafts School. Woven wicker frame painted white. New cushion upholstered in aged green leather. In good solid usable condition. A version of this chair is featured on page 153 of the 1908 edition of the German decorative arts journal Innendekoration by Alex Koch.
