Walnut and Leather Armchair Desk Chair after Giles Grendey, Late 19th Century

About the Item

A fine quality, beautifully hand carved and constructed walnut armchair in the manner of Giles Grendey (1693-1780). Hoop back design being of open strap work with carved decorative relief. Flanking either side are shepherd crook arms, and standing on finely carved front cabriole legs being hipped at the knee with foliate decoration, terminating in hairy paw feet. Recently upholstered in distressed green leather, finish recently refreshed. Comfortable and generous size seat. An extraordinary replica of an 18th century Georgian period design by Giles Grendey. Made by an expert craftsman in the late 19th century to very early 20th century (possibly Irish).
