17th century, Italian Baroque Lacquered Wood Bench

About the Item

17th century, Italian Baroque Lacquered Wood Bench Measurements: W maximum 190 x H 114 x D maximum 31. Seat D 25 x H 54 This ancient baroque bench was made in Tuscany, Italy, in the seventeenth century. The lacquered wooden structure has trompe l'oeil decorations and noble coat of arms. The back is shaped. At the center stands a large shield with lion rampant, heraldic symbol of the noble family who commissioned the seat, to be placed in an aristocratic palace. The shield is inserted inside a frame trompe l'oil that simulates the carved stone, with volutes and curls. On the top is painted a large crown that emphasizes the noble origin. On the sides of the coat of arms there are trompe l'oeil paintings of the decorations with large acanthus leaves. The decorations resume on the band under sitting in which the painting simulates a stone architecture composed of reserves, grooved bands and relief, embellished with trope the oeil depicting garlands of flowers and fruit centered by a large shell and again large acanthus leaves that enrich the two feet and contoured profiles. This charming bench, very decorative, can be placed in different environments, such as halls, corridors, entrances, also useful as a support surface of great elegance.
