18th Century Swedish Gustavian Window Seat

About the Item

An unusual Swedish window seat from Lindome in the oval (or zero) style with incredible detailed carvings. The arched sides have an intricately detailed open design. The upper section consists of an oval medallion of five feathers topped by an elaborately carved wavy arch. The lower section is made up of seven ovals (or zeros) from which the piece gets its name. The arched outward facing sides have a fine repeating fern-like pattern that runs from bottom to top. The horizontal front frame and side sashes have floral carved decorations on center; all joined on the corners with unique fleurons. The front legs are turned, detailed in heavy fluting and slightly tapered. Tastefully repainted in a pale blue and reupholstered in linen. This rare piece can also be used as a day bed or bench.
