About the Item
This is a 1960s Stained Oak Bench or Coffee Table, designed by Torbjorn Afdal and produced by Mellemstrands Mobelfabrik in Norway. The fine grain of the stained oak veneer on this piece is exquisite. It would serve beautifully as a bench in a foyer, or could alternately be utilized as a low coffee table.
The piece measures 15.625 inches long, 59.5 inches wide, and 13.5 inches high. The wood is in great shape. It does show some surface blemishes, and there are some scratches and scuff marks on the surface of the wood. The oak veneer is currently stained a darker shade of brown, but we can have the piece refinished for a modest charge. Overall, the bench remains in good vintage condition. Please see photos.

Torbjørn Afdal
Torbjørn Afdal was one of the leading designers at Bruksbo Tegnekontor and in Scandinavia. Afdal became more well known when his furniture was bought by US first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and by the Japanese Emperor. In later years, he was granted the commission to design the parliamentary and chairs and tables to the courthouse in Oslo.
