19th Century French Louis XIII Barley Twist Walnut Bench with Upholstered Seat
About the Item
Add extra seating to a hallway, den or living room with this elegant antique bench with back. Crafted in southern France circa 1850, this sturdy fruit wood seating stands on carved barley twist legs embellished with a matching bottom stretcher. The tall rectangular back with top finials over barley twist columns, is decorated with two carved back panels in the center depicting peasants people in traditional authentic clothing; the top rail is further embellished with a carved date "1603 AD". The deep seat is upholstered with a salmon and yellow striped fabric, and dressed with decorative brass nail heads, and flanked with elegant carved armrest embellished with acanthus leaf motifs. The Gothic and comfortable bench is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina and wonderful warm colors.
