19th Century French Renaissance Carved Oak Bench with Figural Motifs

About the Item

Compliment your entryway, hallway or mud room with this heavily carved antique bench. Crafted in northern France, circa 1870, and built of solid oak wood, the Renaissance style bench stands on bracket feet over a carved scalloped apron. The elegant back features three carved panels with figural motifs in high relief and flanked with geometric on the sides; the top is further embellished with scroll and leaf decor and dressed with lion head finials in each corner. The seating with curved open armrests, has a trapdoor which lifts up and reveals interior storage (ideal to store extra blankets, kids toy or other objects). The front is embellished with three carved panels of floral and leaves, and both sides are decorated with foliage motifs. The Louis XIII bench is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with exquisite carvings, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Measures: 47.25" W x 18" D x 45" H.
