About the Item

A wonderfully long and classic American deacon’s bench, measuring an impressive 10 feet in length and dating to the mid 19th century. This sturdy and honest piece retains an older slate blue paint, worn in all the right places with great patina and dry surface character that speaks to its age and utility. Built for community seating, the bench features a graceful crest rail, gently curved arms, and a continuous turned spindle back over a wide plank seat. The splayed legs and stretchers provide excellent structural integrity and visual balance. There is an older repair to the plank seat, reinforced with braces added beneath—evidence of generations of use and care. In nice antique condition with surface wear and paint loss consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and ready for another generation of service. 34h x 120w x 18d seat height 18
