Bench / Sofa in Oak & Leather in the Manner of Thomas Stender, c. 1980s

About the Item

Introducing an extraordinary Post Modern, studio craft three-seater bench crafted in the manner of Thomas Stender. Utterly unique, free form and definitely a one-of-a-kind statement piece this artfully crafted bench is instinctively three-dimensional and formed from a creative mix of solid oak, steel and genuine, thick-cut leather and incorporates a striking combination of Art Deco, Post Modern and even Abstract design elements all in one. The triad of design and material elements begin with a volcano-shaped "anchor" intricately carved from solid slabs of oak, stained amber, that features elegant curves and a cavernous empty shell on the back side adding to the complexity and depth of the piece. The base, constructed from a mix of ebonized oak and horizontal steel dowels, is curvaceous and serpentine bringing the Abstract element to the piece. The bench seat has been recovered in a genuine, thick-cut Italian leather hide in a rich dark-gray/green color. Ideal for collectors and designers alike searching for a truly one-of-a-kind studio craft presentation piece. Perfect for studio settings this thought-provoking and visually arresting piece is sure to make a BOLD statement in any space it inhabits. With nothing else out there like it, when it's gone, it's gone forever - make it yours today. ---Dimensions--- Width: 62 in / 157.48 cm Depth: 40 in / 101.6 cm Height: 40.5 in / 102.87 cm Seat Height: 16 in / 40.64 cm Save for the newly upholstered bench seat this eye-catching bench is in original, vintage condition and is the epitome of functional art. The solid oak frame and leg-base are superb shape with no scratches, gouges or stains whatsoever. The newly re-upholstered thick-cut Italian leather hide is in new, never-sat-in condition and shows only the wear of a once living animal (ranch brands, scars etc.) and features new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. This artfully-crafted bench is highly functional, structurally sound and ready for decades more of use. Please view all photos and video for details on this show-stealing piece's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
