About the Item

Midcentury bench in jacaranda by Ernesto Hauner for Mobilinea manufacturer, Brazil, 1950s. Mr. Hauner emigrated to Brazil in 1948, together with his brother Carlo Hauner. In Italy he studied technical design. In São Paulo, Brazil, he worked as a draftsman at Lina Bo Bardi and Giancarlo Palanti's Studio Palma, and there he learned how to design pieces of furniture. He came to be integrated with the team of Artesanal and became a partner of the company when Carlo Hauner returned to Italy in 1954. Artesanal subsequently changed its name to Forma. In 1955, Ernesto married Georgia Morpurgo, interior designer at Forma, and in 1958, sold his stake in the company and went to Italy, returning to Brazil in 1959. In 1960, after having once again met his master Vicente Barbarullo and several former colleagues at Forma, he estabilished Ernesto Hauner Indústria de Móveis, which soon became Mobilinea, with the English engineer John de Souza as one of its partners. The design of Mobilinea's residential and office furniture were Ernesto Hauner' work. Georgia Morpurgo worked as a store designer, hosting several exhibitions and collaborated as interior design editor of the magazines of Editora Abril.
