Figures Bench
About the Item
The Figures Bench is a 7-foot bench with a 16” deep seat and 16” height. The default top and base are burnt ash but can be optioned out at additional cost.
The piece comes from the FIGURES collection which can be easily identified by its visually simple profile and deeply textured surfaces. Each piece is an assembly of three slabs, two legs, and a top. On approach, the depth and movement of the piece gradually come into focus. Through a manual process of burning and brushing, the distinctive movement found in the figure of the wood is made prominent. Elaborate designs are deliberately avoided allowing the textures to take a primary focus. The tactile surfaces invite exploration through touch, offering users not only a functional work but an interactive and sensory connection with the material itself.

Michael Javidi is a multidisciplinary craftsman whose training at the North Bennett Street School’s furniture making program prepared him for a career of wooden boat building. Drawing from his experience as a shipwright and furniture maker, Michael launched Michael Javidi Design in 2019. His work draws from his multitude of experiences, focusing on building intuitively. Organic in form, the pieces strive to balance beauty and comfort, function and form.
