About the Item
The Fjoon (pr. fyoon) collection rose out of a multi-year obsession with high end upholstery as well as an infatuation with wood joinery and principles of chair strength from the broader chair making community, especially windsor chair makers. My musings led me to include what are now a few of my favorite aspects of fjoon.
The fjoon bench features a vacuum-laminated upholstered seat with a sweeping compound curve, stepped mortise-and-tenon joinery with a friction wedge, and a patent-pending wood plug system which allows for re-upholstery down the line without having to destroy / re-fabricate any chair parts. We meticulously selected ten offerings of upholstery leathers and textiles of the highest quality from our newest partners Sorensøn and Kvadrat.
With the armed version of the fjoon settee/bench we wanted to add robust curvature with an arm that would elevate the aesthetic but still keep a svelte profile. The elbow of the arm, our favorite aspect, is a complex organic shape which adds drama and still maintains the class of the original fjoon chair.
The fjoon chair is available in our Walnut, White Ash, and Charcoal Ash and in 5 Sorensøn leather options: Saddle, Walnut, Nubuck Ecru, Black and Olive - and five Kvadrat textiles: Charcoal Felt Wool, Charcoal/Brown Woven Wool, Gray Woven Wool, Beige Tight Weave Wool, and Blush Taupe Woven Wool.

Fernweh Woodworking
Justin founded Fernweh Woodworking in 2015 in Bend, OR. He developed the Sling Chair and Tripod Table in 2017, a process sparking his desire to develop a line of handcrafted furniture. The Oxbend and Fjoon Collections arrived in 2020 and 2023; Fernweh Woodworking now offers furniture for every room in a house. He is inspired by the design philosophy and work ethic of Sam Maloof, and admires the legacy and designs of Hans Wegner and the Eames, among many others. ‘ Justin studied business at Purdue University and joined the Marine Corps, deploying on an advisory team for Afghan Police. After joining a hotshot fire crew in OR, he took up woodworking.
