About the Item
Rare slatted settee on chromed steel base designed by Gerald McCabe and produced in California by Pacific Furniture, circa 1965. Sort of Marshmallow sofa meets park bench. In its original blue and green vinyl. Ref: "California design: The Legacy of West Coast Craft and Style," page 27 shows the chaise version; the chaise appears in an undated Pacific Furniture catalog in the same green and blue vinyl.

By architect and designer Henry Glass, an Austrian emigre who worked with Gilbert Rohde in New York City in the late 1930’s and then studied in Chicago with Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. Glass was ahead of his time in his concerns with pre-fabrication, modularity, affordability, and ecological responsibility.
