Highly Decorative Black Painted Wood Bench #1 -- Folke Bensow Design

About the Item

Here's a very decorative bench in the style of Swedish designer, Folke Bensow (1886-1971). In fact, this bench seems to be made to almost the exact specifications to the original model from 1925. The original, bench 'Taburett Nr 1' was cast in metal. This bench is wood and painted to simulate weathered iron. The country of origin is unknown and the age appears to be from the 1970s. That said, this example came from a wealthy estate of a Fortune 500 CEO. In our research, we have not been able to find other examples of this bench in wood. The dimensions of the bench are also identical to the original iron model. Condition is very good--the painted finish has texture and almost has a waxed feel. Bensow's original metal bench of this style, which was shown at the 1925 Paris World Exhibition, is rare and highly valuable. We have another Bensow-style bench listed from this same estate that is longer. Folke Bensow was a Swedish-born architect and furniture designer who worked and studied in both Stockholm and Copenhagen, Denmark.

1930s Napier Silver-Plate Cocktail Shaker Designed by Emil Schuelke
By Emil Schuelke
Located in Minneapolis, MN
Here is a hard-to-find modernist silver-plate cocktail shaker designer by Emil Schuelke in the mid-1930s and made by Napier Company of Meriden, Connecticut. The cone-shaped shaker consists of two pieces--the top can be used for measuring ingredients. This example is in good condition--there are no deep scratches or dents. There some silver losses on the body and top of the shaker and the inside strainer has loss as well. You can tell the shaker has been used--there is wear to the interior. We've included several photos which represent the condition well. But all in all, this shaker presents nicely and would make a great addition to any bar or cocktail shaker collection. From Wikipedia: "Napier silver designs from the first half of the 20th century are in museum collections including the Brooklyn Museum, Newark Museum and a substantial collection at the Dallas Museum of Art. Over the years, Napier silver has been featured in museum exhibitions, including Modernism in American Silver: 20th Century Design at the Smithsonian in Washington, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Wolfsonian in Miami Beach, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN (2005–07). Napier designs have also been included in two shows at the Brooklyn Museum, entitled 19th century Modern (2011–12; 2013–15). In November 2016-November 2017, the iconic Napier penguin cocktail shaker...
