Italian Modernist Teak and Leather Bench by Inge and Luciano Rubino

About the Item

Bench designed by Inge and Luciano Rubino in 1964 for Apec Italy. Of the few pieces of furniture the Danish/Italian couple designed, this bench is the most iconic and coveted. Long version composed of slatted teakwood with double molded-leather 'wave' seat and black enameled-steel legs (the orientation of the legs is different at each end by design). The teakwood (largely employed in Danish/Scandinavian design) coupled with the form of the piece (which is aesthetically Italian Modernist) yields a perfect marriage reflecting each respective designer's background. New gray leather upholstery. Teak has been refinished. Only light wear remains (namely, a ding to the slatted section, as shown). Smaller model published on page 124 of L'Arredamento Moderno, Settima Serie, Aloi. H: 13.5" x L: 63.75" x 16.5" Leather seat portion: H: 13.5" x L: 36" x D: 16.5" Slatted surface section: H: 13.25" x L: 25.25" x D: 15.5".
