About
Originally from the area around Milan in northern Italy, this Baroque style solid bronze bench from the late nineteenth century is commonly referred to as a Dagobert. Named after the last king of the Merovingian line, it features the Classic form of two opposing half circles. Each arched leg and armrest is fluted, and a central rosette at their conjuncture is flanked by stylized rais-de-coeur. The arrests are appointed with additional rosettes and are finished with scrolled leaves. The seat is upholstered in embroidered silk and rests on tapered square feet detailed with scrolling and leaves, circa 1880.
