About the Item

Designed by Gustav Siegel in Vienna in 1899 and executed by Jacob & Josef Kohn around 1901, this elegant two-seat bench is part of the same celebrated series as the iconic armchair 715/F. The piece measures 77 × 121.5 × 55 cm (H × W × D) and is crafted in bentwood, upholstered with Backhausen fabric (a 1905 design by Kolo Moser). It remains in original condition, showing signs of age and wear, with restoration recommended. The 715/C canapé reflects Siegel’s pioneering Secessionist design language, first acclaimed at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1900, where his armchair was awarded the gold medal. The bench demonstrates the same balance of functional clarity and refined elegance that influenced leading architects and designers of the Viennese avant-garde, including Otto Wagner, Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann, and Marcel Kammerer. A perfect match for our 2 armchairs and 4 chairs. References: Documented in Renzi, Il mobile moderno (2008), Jacob & Josef Kohn Catalogues (1904, 1907),
