About the Item

This modern Minimalist bench is constructed from two structural oak beams that appear to float upon a welded steel frame. These historic beams were salvaged from a Bed-Stuy brownstone during demolition, likely dating from the 1860's the character of the oak timbers is enhanced by the hand-hewn adze marks and hand-cut mortises. As seen in images benches are finished in natural oil with blackened steel or white, measuring 17" D x 98" L x 20" H. This is a bespoke piece so custom dimensions, materials, colors and finishes (both interior and exterior) can be accommodated. Please inquire for pricing. All Stefan Rurak Studio pieces are designed and handcrafted in Brooklyn New York.

Solid Heart Pine Beam "Greenwich Ave Table" with Inlayed Steel Butterfly Keys
By Stefan Rurak
Located in Biddeford, ME
Heart pine refers to the heartwood of the pine tree, which is the non-living center of the tree trunk. This wood is prized by woodworkers for it's strength and resilience. An inch of heart pine requires 30 years growth. Due to deforestation and over-harvesting since colonial days, only about 3% of the original Longleaf Pine forest remains. This table is composed of four pre-1900 12" x 12"; beams that lie together on a blackened steel base. Blackened steel butterfly keys...
