Painted Chapel Bench English Antique Upholstered Oak Victorian Settle Grey Blue

About the Item

A strikingly attractive and rare, large antique chapel bench in lovely condition. Most likely hailing from late Victorian England, this charming oak bench has in more recent decades been refinished in grey-blue chalk paint with a mottled blue reupholstered seat. With its traditional bygone quality, impressive stature and appealing shabby-chic aesthetic, this versatile chapel bench will make a great addition to any interior. Traditionally crafted from reassuringly heavy solid oak, this splendid three-seater settle bench would have begun its life as a church or chapel bench and now makes a great hallway, conservatory or kitchen bench. Impressively sized, it features wonderful, scrolled arms above intricately turned arm supports and matching front legs. The tall and closed ‘settle’ back consists of eight tongue-and-groove joined planks, with the original oak seat replaced by a more comfortable and attractive cushioned seat finished in mottled blue upholstery. All in all this is an extremely charming, very impressive, rare and versatile antique bench, which will add bygone quality and lovely modern colouring to any setting. CONDITION This is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound and sturdy, reassuringly heavy and expertly crafted from solid oak throughout, this super bench has only minor to-be-expected marks and wear to refinished paint, which only adds to its shabby-chic charm. The refinished upholstery is in good condition and the seat firmness is soft. Overall it’s a charming, rare bench in lovely condition and if well looked after it should be just as splendid and practical for generations to come - please see the photos.
