Primitive 19th Century Elm Wabi-Sabi Wheel Makers 5ft Pig Bench Seat

About the Item

A superb primitive wabi-sabi wooden bench, 19th century (possibly earlier), a characterful piece in its original form, a wonderful natural piece with great texture and colour. A rare style, the bench would have originally been used as a wheelwrigths bench/vice with both ends open and closing to form a clamp mechanism to accommodate different wheel widths. The bench has now been firmly fixed into position to provide a usable bench, surprisingly comfortable and a great occasional bench seat for a hallway or as a decorators piece. Would also work well in a bathroom or sauna area, ideal for towels and accessories. In excellent sturdy condition, despite its rickety appearance, the bench is very stable and sturdy to sit on. The wood is also in excellent solid order, the base of legs have been cut to provide a level stance to the bench seat. All wood has been carefully checked and preserved, clean and ready for installation. Made from mixed Elm and Ash, an attractive unique one-off piece for someone looking to add natural wood texture to a room or to create that perfect wabi-sabi beauty.

19th C Jacobean Renaissance Carved Oak High Back Cane 3 Seater Hall Bench Settee
Located in Llanbrynmair, GB
A decorative and well presented 19th Century Jacobean renaissance carved oak three seater high back bench settee.  A superb quality piece with ornate arched back and cane inset panels. A lovely contrast with dark, almost ebonised wood frame, and light coloured cane seating. Gently curved arms, which are very inviting, are typical of this style.  The bench sits on eight legs, all connected by their original turned stretchers with additional decorative arched mounded stretchers to the front.  A good sized, well proportioned piece with generous seat.  The three seat design provides a lovely balanced and symmetrical feel to the piece. Seat height = 46cm / 18" The piece is in excellent condition, there are a couple of historic repairs to the arched tops (see photos) but these are well made repairs and are in-keeping with the piece.  The bench is sturdy with the cane seating also in excellent order.  The item is clean and ready for installation. Provenance: This piece sat for many years at the famous London...
