Rare Short Dom Hans van der Laan Abbey Church of St. Benedictusberg, Vaals 1967

About the Item

Benedictine monk & architect Dom Hans Van der Laan made these benches for the Abbey Church of St. Benedictusberg, Vaals in the Netherlands in 1967. Very little of this original inventory from Vaals has survived and this short version is a rare find. For more information and history you can search for the Dom Hans van der Laan foundation and see the works of this important architect and designer. “The Space of nature has three aspects which leave us at a loss: it is unlimited, without form and without measure … Architecture is nothing else but that which must be added to natural space to make it habitable, that is, delimited in relation to our bodies, visible to our senses and measurable for our intellect.” Dom Hans van der Laan, speaking to architecture students, 1985.
