$5,500per set

About

We are proud to offer a superb pair of extremely rare 'Mercurio' lounge chairs by the French artist, designer and sculptor Claude Courtecuisse. Both chars are signed with the 'Cataneo' stamped mark to the underside of each base, please see Image 3. The chairs are made of white methacrylate acrylic and were produced by the Italian artisan workshop 'Cataneo' for the French company 'Steiner' in 1967. The Italians were at the time master fabricators of the then very new and expensive methacrylate acrylic which allowed for the production of expressive freeform designs. The 'Mecurio' chairs were exhibited at the prestigious 1969 'Espaces Et Lumieres -,salon des artistes decoratifs' exhibition in Paris. A unique version of the 'Mercurio' chair in transparent methacrylate with a serigraph of Terence Stamp entitled 'Teorema' (after the still taken from the famous film by Pier Paolo Passolini) was exhibited at the 'Les Annees pop' exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Courtecuisse was a french designer, sculptor and artist . Courtecuisse's works are in the collections of the 'Centre Pomipidou' and the Musee des arts decoratifs' in Paris and the great 'FRAC' collection in Calais . . Courtecuisse took part in 1967 at the 'Salons des arts decorateurs' at the Grand Palais in Paris where designers decided to address the social environment through the theme 'art of living' , here Courtecuisse set up a huge stand of his avant garde cardboard furniture (an example of which is part of the Centre Pompidou collection ) In 2007 Claude Courtecuisse had a solo exhibition at the 'Centre Pompidou' , Paris.
