About the Item
Attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, in the manner of Tatham and Marsh, this Regency hall bench/window seat is one of the best examples of English furniture of this period.
This good scale bold bench has flowing bolster ends, turned randles, finishing on fine turned reeded tapering legs. The wonderful quality cuban mahogany has a great figure and caramel to honey colours, the seat and bolster flow into one another with the grain running in the same direction, showing off Gillows of Lancaster’s first class cabinet making skills. The Gillows name is associated with the utmost respectability and value for money.
