About

This playful, whimsical outdoor bench was created in 2012 by French designer Sam Baron for the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden's inaugural exhibition of Design at Fairchild: Sitting Naturally.

Made of white lacquered wood strips, metal and ceramic, it features a series of attachments including hanging plants and parasol that invites the sitter to imagine another world.

Sam Baron is an independent designer who continually reinterprets traditional methods of construction, questioning the utility of today's material productions. He was named one of the ten important designers of the next decade by Philippe Starck during the last Maison & Objet Fair and received the coveted "Grand Prix de la Creation de la Ville de Paris"

Baron's work was featured in the exhibition "Downsideup by Fabrica" at the American Folk Art Museum in New York City. The Experimenta-Design team also chose some of his pieces for the "Revolution" exhibition at the Quintella Palace in Lisbon.
