About the Item

This "Scheletro" sofa, a two-seater by Finnish designer Kari Asikainen, cannot be confused with any other model thanks to its unique, anthropomorphic design. It is extremely rare. Designed in 1987, this model is considered a postmodern Finnish design classic. The wooden seat, supported by metal legs, has a skeletal shape, which likely inspired the name. The design is playful yet ergonomic, with a seat and backrest that support the human body. The futuristic look is enhanced by the visible bolts. The Finnish manufacturer P. O. Korhonen specialized in wood presses, which allowed the seat parts to be pressed into a wide variety of shapes. The unique technique is clearly visible and displays a variety of interesting forms and lines. This model belongs to the Scheletro collection that Kari Asikainen designed in 1987 for the furniture factory P. O. Korhonen Oy. The factory was known for its bent and profiled wood furniture, primarily designed by Asikainen and Timo Saarnio. The company was jointly owned by Martela and Artek. Flat-packing is available for reduced shipping costs. Request a shipping quote.
