About the Item
A very rare art deco / machine age tubular chrome bench with by Wolfgang Hoffman for Howell Co., circa late 1930's. The bench is in good vintage condition and has been professionally recovered with a subtle grey tweed material and suede underside; the piece measures 35"W x 15"D x 18"H. A partial Howell label is attached to the underside. A really cool and stable piece of art deco / machine age history! #4655
Wolfgang Hoffman (1900-1969) Born in Vienna, Hoffmann was the son of noted architect and Wiener Werkstätte founder, Josef Hoffmann. As Howell’s resident designer from 1934 to 1942, he created a number of designs for chromed steel furniture with a strong Machine Age or Bauhaus sensibility.
