Walnut Knife Beam Bench 3' Long Solid Wood + Blackened Steel by Alabama Sawyer

About the Item

Our knife beam bench in walnut utilizes salvaged walnut wood logs for a rustic bench. Narrow and backless, the simple lines express the natural texture of the end grain of each species. The 12" x 12" beam is milled and finished to sit raised by a mild steel base with a black patina. The beam bench brings rustic beauty at a variety of lengths. Cracks, knots, saw marks and variation is part of the beauty of these pieces. The wood will continue to move and the finish to patina over time. The knife walnut beam bench makes a cozy coffee table in a den or living room or low table in a mud room or entry hall for flexible use as a place to place packages and bags or to remove shoes. With the oiled finish used on the knife walnut beam bench, we do not recommend putting this bench outside, exposed to the elements. Steel is coated and polished with a black patina and wax, but it will rust if outside. Wood may move to expose bare walnut underneath. Urban wood has character. Walnut pieces may contain color variations ranging from deep brown to light yellow. Character can include variations in color and grain, small pin knots, evidence of historical intrusion. There may be cracks or knots that we fill, patch or join in a considered and artful way at the makers discretion. We look at every slab and decide what needs a patch or epoxy or both. Case by case, one may be more effective and better for the furniture, aesthetically, structurally, and for our process. Please note: If a specific tool, like a patch, is not desired, please specify this when ordering. This may require procuring different lumber which can alter costs. If color adjustment is requested on a completed piece after the fact, we will charge additionally for a custom stain. We can customize the length up to 8' long.
