About the Item
Georgian mahogany Hepplewhite bergère armchair
Arched concave back to carved fluted swept arms. The seat front of serpentine form uniting square tapered legs with spade feet, the tops carved with oval floral paterae. The oilcloth and close brass nailed upholstery is original, for this to have been so well preserved is exceptional. The fine carving and detail of this bergère are typical designs of George Hepplewhite as published in Hepplewhite's 'Cabinet Maker and Upholsters Guide' of 1788.
