A distinctive pair of mid-Century modern Italian armchairs in the style of Paolo Buffa, a fine Italian manufacturer, circa 1950s. Having high backrests with a gentle incline that offers comfort and support, sculpted sinuous hardwood arms, and short slightly flared front legs, all features that are characteristic of Buffa's designs. The recent reupholstery in a neutral cotton linen blend enhances their appeal and comfort while still complementing the polished wood frames. Sturdy and comfortable, these Italian lounge chairs exemplify the enduring appeal of Buffa's designs and serve as a testament to his legacy as one of Italy's most important designers. Paolo Buffa was an Italian architect and designer best known for his designs of mid-Century furniture. Characterized by a blending of traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics, he used a combination of low-profile, rectilinear, and hardwood forms to produce his most classic pieces. Born in 1903 in Milan, Buffa studied at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan before working for the prominent Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti. After opening a firm with his frequent collaborator Antonio Cassi Ramelli, Buffa's career grew in critical and commercial acclaim. The designer’s oeuvre includes exhibitions at the 1948 Salon des Artistes Decorateur in Paris. Before his death in 1970 in Milan, Italy, Buffa had been named one of the most important designers in the country.
