Set of two Louis XVI Chairs, in carved walnut. France, 18th century (1774-1791) "slightly different cymbal". One of the most coveted items that represented the most bespoke cultural endeavour of the finest wood carving for furniture purposes in Europe - The Baroque period. Still today on the XXI Century it is to be celebrated and found on the most lavish and well appointed homes, offices, hotels and restaurants due to also its comfort and support for the human body while seated - a testament to the early study of the cientific field ergonomics for the time. It's upholstery has been careful chosen to a boast a vivid color - purple and for endurance longevity has been replaced with a resistant vinyl depicting leather pattern. Louis XVI furniture is characterized by elegance and neoclassicism, a return to ancient Greek and Roman models. Much of it was designed and made for Queen Marie Antoinette for the new apartments she created in the Palace of Versailles, Palace of Fontainebleau, the Tuileries Palace, and other royal residences. The finest craftsmen of the time, including Jean-Henri Riesener, Georges Jacob, Martin Carlin, and Jean-François Leleu, were engaged to design and make her furniture.
