Louis XV Style Glitwood & Red Silk Canapé
About the Item
This Louis XV style giltwood "canapé à corbeille" features a comfortable curving backrest with an elliptical central panel topped by carved ribbons, from which molded serpentine rails lead to incurved armrests on voluted supports. Raised on six brass castered cabriole legs with leaf tips and brass casters, the deeply tufted seat and backrest are upholstered with padded red silk. Part of a salon set, this luxurious couch remained at the same chateau since first commissioned in the 19th century.
Please note that some of the tufting buttons are missing, and the piece would greatly benefit from reupholstering, unless a vintage feel is desired, as the fabric is worn and torn in some places.
