About the Item

18th C. Louis XV Beach wood and Cain Arm Chair Chaise Percée Side chair. Antique. Circa 1700’s Chaise Percée we have is of the same period of the Roi Louis XV and La Marquise de Pompadour. they were not made for the general public, that’s why it’s rare to find the 18th Century period. upholstered with Tiger print fabric. The chaise percée or the pierced chair known in France as “Chaise nécessaire” It used to be in the “garde-robe” hence the “wardrobe chair” comes from. That’s where the more euphemism and figure of speech to express what the Chaise percée was about in softening the reality. Use it as a side Chair , by a Desk, in an entryway. It is a great addition and signature to your space. At the time of Madame de Pompadour they used to keep the chaise percée in The “Cabinet des Dépêches” . that room was very well decorated and ornate. The attached picture of the chaise percée in the salle de bains of the Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte , and of the one that was in the “fauteuil garde-robe” of Mme De pompadour Duchesse of Menars (the favorite of the King Louis XV) Los Angeles dealer CA West Hollywood Melrose Ave La Cienega Blvd. Dimensions: Height: 38.75 in (98.43 cm)Width: 26 in (66.04 cm)Depth: 24 in (60.96 cm)Seat Height: 19.5 in (49.53 cm) Outstanding Craftsmanship of wood carved French around The Régence ( Regency) period, that’s why we still see the effects of that earlier period on this Louis XV chair. It was the period in French history between 1715 and 1723 when King Louis XV was considered a minor and the country was instead governed by Philippe II, Duke of Orléans (a nephew of Louis XIV of France) as prince regent. By the end of the old king's reign Louis XIV , rich Baroque designs were giving way to lighter elements with more curves and natural patterns. These elements are obvious in the architectural designs of Nicolas Pineau. During the Régence, court life moved away from Versailles and this artistic change became well established, first in the royal palace and then throughout French high society. The delicacy and playfulness of Rococo designs is often seen as perfectly in tune with the excesses of Louis XV's regime.
