About the Item
Created out of a single piece of molded plywood is this side chair designed by Ray Komai for J.G. Furniture in 1949. After his interment from Manzanar, Komai went to Brooklyn and started a successful design firm that worked in several disciplines. This design for JG Furniture produced a radical chair for the day with plywood, a then exciting new material. The shell form is secured via a chromed attachment point in the back and a wood block base with bent metal legs at the bottom. Retains original finish , patina. edge-wear minor scratches.
