6 equal chairs, early 19th Century, Late Gustavian, made by Ephraim Sthal

About the Item

6 Late Gustavavian chairs made by Ephraim Ståhl. The chairs are beautifully hand carved with nail clippers and leaf shaped decorations. The chairs are made by Ephraim Stahl, who worked in Stockholm 1794- 1820. Ephraim Stahl sold several chairs and armchairs to the Royal family and other governments in Stockholm. The chairs are equal. Gustavian style was the leading style in Swedish architecture, decor and crafts during the Gustavian era, inspired by French Neoclassicism. The style was established in the 1780s. The period is named after King Gustav III of Sweden, who spent a great deal of time at Versailles in 1771. When he returned home to Sweden, he brought with him a love of French neoclassical style. Gustavian furnitures are very popular in especially England but also in France and in US.
