About the Item

Arinhama Chair in Pequi Wood by Hugo França Dimensions: D 54,9 x W 90,9 x H 156 cm. Materials: Pequi wood. Atelier Hugo França's principle is to transform trunks, roots, and parts of trees that are generally rejected. This raw material is stored at the atelier in Trancoso, then chosen by Hugo França according to its texture and organic shape for various projects. The artist's creative process starts from such dialogue with the raw material, and he draws directly on wood, following the paths created by nature. In production, we reframe the use of the chainsaw by carving trunks and roots and giving the artworks a sustainable and sculptural content.

One-of-a-Kind Contemporary Aziza Easy Chair by Hugo França, Brazil 2017
By Hugo França
Located in Deerfield Beach, FL
This lounge chair is an unique piece in pequi wood made in Brazil in 2017, by contemporary designer Hugo França, famous for his sculptural furniture using reclaimed wood and preserving the organic forms of the tree. This piece was originally a canoe manufactured by the Pataxó indigenous people, in south of Bahia, Brazil. In the early 80s, Hugo França abandoned his previous career as an industrial engineer in São Paulo to be closer to nature, moving to Trancoso, Bahia. Witnessing from up-close the rampant destruction of the local Atlantic Forest greatly impacted him, motivating his current work as a designer. França reverences the very trees salvaged by him as his main inspiration; he works intuitively, allowing his creative process to be guided by each tree’s organic...
