Arm Chair by Enjar Larsen & Aksel Bender Madsen, Willy Beck, Denmark, c. 1950's

About the Item

Introducing a rare and limited early Danish Modern armchair by Enjar Larsen & Aksel Bender Madsen for Willy Beck, crafted in the 1950s in Denmark. This stunning armchair is constructed from solid teak, showcasing the natural beauty of the old-growth wood grain and unique coloration. The curved back and sculptural seat back add a touch of elegance to the design, while the tapered legs lend a sense of lightness and airiness. The seat has been newly re-upholstered with multicolored wicker, following the original pattern and methods to ensure durability for decades to come. Danish designer and cabinetmaker Aksel Bender Madsen (1916-2000) created a number of classic midcentury designs in the late 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, often collaborating with his business partner and friend Ejner Larsen (1917-1987). Larsen and Bender Madsen's most famous design, the Metropolitan Chair, was developed in 1949 and produced from 1950. The name came from New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, where it was shown and acquired for the Arts of Denmark exhibition in 1960. Together, Bender Madsen and Larsen received many awards, including the prestigious Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Annual Prize in 1956 and 1961. Their furniture is housed in museums around the world, including the Met and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark. This extraordinary armchair is a true collector's item, perfect for those who appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of Danish Modern furniture. Featuring newly upholstered seats, solid teak construction, and elegant design, this chair is sure to make a statement in any dining room, living space, or office. Make it yours today before it's gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 24.75 in / 62.87 cm Depth: 21.5 in / 54.61 cm Height: 30.25 in / 76.84 cm Seat Height: 17 in / 43.18 cm Arm Height: 24.25 in / 61.6 cm This ultra-rare early Danish Modern armchair has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration process, and the results speak for themselves.
