Art Deco Austrian Chair with Painted Panel

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Unique and very particular Austrian chair made of oak wood; the backrest is very high and well outlined with an original design and with linear decorations carved in the wood; on the top, there is a painted panel representing a nice scene of a Dutch landscape with three maidens running in a meadow and a boy trying to grab a clog (the typical "komplen") lost by one of the maidens; the whole scene can bring us to remember the fairy tale of Cinderella! The seat, very essential, is obtained from a slab of squared oak; the front legs are enriched at the top by simple carved floral decorations; the back legs are obtained from the extension of the backrest. The chair was handcrafted in Vienna between 1926 and 1928, we were lucky enough to buy it at the Naschmarkt, a market that is an institution in the field of antiques in the Austrian city. The artisans who have worked on this chair have managed to create an extraordinary piece of furniture, refined and compelling, extraordinary and unique ability to communicate suggestions of past times, tradition and functionality, its aesthetic from the impeccable lines is energetic, compact and pleasant, a typical example of Art Deco. For Art Decò we mean a style and a model of aesthetic taste that spread throughout Europe and the United States between the 1920s and the 1930s. The name Decò derives from the words "Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes" held in Paris in 1925, which started this new phenomenon that involved decorative arts, visual arts, architecture, and fashion. Art Decò is characterized by classic, essential, symmetrical, and elegant shapes, with clear geometries and plasticity in the figures. On the wooden structure, we have not decided to make any restoration because its superficial veiled patina and its small imperfections make it really seductive and fascinating and attest to the antiquity and authenticity. Measures width cm.43, depth cm.41, height cm.107, seat cm.46. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. The very particular chair has an elegant and aggressive shape; Pierre Guariche is a legendary French designer from the 20th century. He gave a personal and innovative touch to design by combining aestheticism and mass production. As a visionary designer, he knew how to create pieces of furniture with a functionalist approach and an aesthetic dimension. He really wanted to meet the needs of the times by using methods of the series production. His creations became mythic pieces such as the Tonneau chair (1953 and 1954), the Tulip chair (1953), and the President's desk (1961). Our chair was made in France in 1960 and recently retouched with Guild fabric.
