About the Item

Atelier C. Demoyen, set of eight dining chairs, elm, leather, rope, brass, France, 1970s Striking set of chairs by Atelier C. Demoyen. Echoing the refined simplicity of the iconic S24 model conceived by Pierre Chapo, these pieces in solid elmwood reveal a terse and masterfully restrained design that is both sleek and contemporary in appearance. The cognac leather seating adds a touch of understated sophistication, offering not only visual warmth but also a comfortable and ergonomic seating experience. Of particular note is the remarkable attention to detail in the construction: from the laced underside of the seat to the precise wood joinery, every element reflects the care and expertise of the artisan’s hand. Atelier C. Demoyen (Claude de Moyen) gained prominence as a workshop recognized for crafting, among others, Pierre Chapo's designs. Consequently, their own furniture creations bear the hallmark of impeccable craftsmanship and the use of premium quality materials. Situated in a small French municipality of Moncel-lès-Lunéville, their operations commenced around 1976. Their body of work is distinguished by the primary utilization of solid wood, expertly constructed through intricate wood joinery techniques. Kindly note that these chairs are in good, used condition and show a beautiful patinated leather.

Knud Hansen for Søren Willadsen Set of Eight Danish Dining Chairs in Leather Elm
By Soren Willadsen Mobelfabrik
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Knud E. Hansen for Søren Willadsens Møbelfabrik, set of eight dining chairs, leather, elm, Denmark, 1952 A refined set of dining chairs, designed by Danish designer Knud E. Hansen and brought to life by the skilled hands at Søren Willadsens Møbelfabrik in Vejen, Denmark. These chairs exemplify timeless Danish design, but it is their history that truly sets them apart. Originally commissioned for the Danish ferry M/F Broen, built in 1952, they once served passengers on the important route between Seeland and Fyn – the main artery connecting Copenhagen with the rest of Denmark. Archival images even show this very chair in the royal private lounge, used during the reign of King Frederik IX. Søren Willadsen wasn’t just a craftsman – he had a rare talent for being exactly where Danish design was happening. With an exceptional eye for quality, he collaborated with some of the great names in mid-century furniture, including Finn Juhl, Jørgen and Nanna Ditzel and Illum Wikkelsø. While these designers are widely recognized, the fact that many of their iconic pieces were made in Willadsen’s workshop in Vejen is a lesser-known part of the story. The chairs exhibit a design that reflects the refinement of 18th-century English-style dining chairs...
