Brutalist Iron Dining Chair, France 1970s - 6 Available

About the Item

Sold and priced individually. A beautiful and unique welded iron Brutalist chair featuring negative space geometric abstract shapes on the backrest and a black leather removable cushion. Brutalism is an architectural current, born in the 1950s in England, seen as the overcoming of the Modern Movement in architecture. The Brutalist current can also be traced to several other artistic fields, such as interior architecture and industrial design. The term originated in 1954 in the United Kingdom (Brutalism) and derives from Le Corbusier's béton brut, which characterizes the "Unité d'Habitation" (1950) in Marseille, and specifically from a phrase found in his Toward an Architecture of 1923: «L'architecture, c'est, avec des matières brutes, établir des rapports émouvants», translated: "Architecture is about creating touching relationships with raw materials".
