19th Century Set of 6 English Victorian Mahogany Dining Chairs by James Reilly

About the Item

An exclusive set of 6 Victorian Mahogany splat back dining chairs made by master carpenter James Reilly (1825 – 1889). The chairs have a balloon back above a splat to the seat and are raised upon turned reeded front supports. These chairs have a special and very strong durable and patented construction and are completely made in solid mahogany. The backs are fixed to the seat rails with bolts fastened with captive nuts hidden in slots in the rails. The exposed head of the bolt is visible at the back and has a slotted head. All chairs are stamped with ”J. REILLY’S PATENT” at the bottom of the stretcher. The chairs are also stamped on the back of the splat and it shows the registered design mark. The chairs have old upholstered seats that can be replaced upon request. Condition details: The chairs are in very good antique condition and show the marks that come with their age. All chairs are solid and can be used. All chairs were gently cleaned and a new protective wax coat was applied. The padded seats can easily be removed. They retain the old fabric that shows some wear and tear. The seats can be reupholstered upon request.
