French 19th Century Ebonized Opera Chairs

About the Item

This is a superb pair of Napoleon III era opera chairs that date to the 1850s. These exceptional, ebonized chairs feature excellently patinated ladder back supports with comfortable and tightly upholstered seats on well supported legs. The chairs are upholstered in thick charcoal gray ribbed cut velvet in great condition held tightly by a row of round brass nailheads. The seat is supported by two tapered front legs and two gently splayed back legs offering extra support. The legs are attached by no less than 6 lovely turned, hand-carved stretchers which make these elegant petite chairs very sturdy and able to be used for many years to come.
