Gastone Rinaldi for Rima "Pan Am" Chair, Italy 1960s

About the Item

The Pan-Am design chair, created in 1970 by Gastone Rinaldi for the company Rima, is4' an icon of 20th-century Italian design. This chair represents a perfect combination of form and function, with a strong emphasis on aesthetics and comfort. Made of chrome-plated steel with a yellow velvet seat and back, the Pan-Am features an elegant tubular frame that gives them a light and contemporary look. This material also gives durability and strength to the chair, ensuring its longevity over time. The chrome finish reflects light in a fascinating way, creating an interplay of reflections that adds further appeal to the overall design. Gastone Rinaldi majored in law at the Belzoni Institute, but was passionate about design and sports. He started working for Rima in Padua, a metal furniture manufacturer founded by his father Mario Rinaldi in 1916. In 1948, together with his brother Giorgio, he took over the family business. Throughout his design career he was able to collaborate with many of Italy's leading designers and architects, including Gio Ponti, Carlo Mollino, Alberto Rosselli, and Michele de Lucchi. Gastone Rinaldi has received numerous design awards, and some of his designs are in the collections of important museums.
