About the Item

Late 18th Century Welsh ‘Comb-Back’ Stick Back Chair This is one for the purest of true folk-art furniture, In the form of a late 18th Century Welsh ‘comb-back’ stick back chair. Untouched in form. With character and charm this example shows aged repairs and a lovely deep natural colour and patination across the mixed wood material, An object of artistic merit in our humble opinion. The wood-working tradition was well established in Wales and included makers of boats, carts, wheelwrights, spinning wheels and, housebuilders – all craftsmen who worked in wood. All of them would have had the necessary knowledge and skill to make a stick chair with every community served by a blacksmith, carpenter, and various other craftsmen. Dimensions in inches: H 44” x W 21” x D 16” Age: 1790 - 1800 Origin: Wales Condition: Aged Aged wear and tear across all the surfaces due to obvious use over the years. This item has not been tightened or messed with. Its completely original and untouched but for some aged repairs to the back support and leg in the from of metal supports. The visible wood worm and decay is long gone, and the damage does not affect the chairs stability in anyway. The crack to the back is supported well and firm due to the metal support placed many years ago. This is a very old item that’s made from metal, and we have tried to show all the condition as best as possible, please expect imperfections as shown. We strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections are unclear to avoid disappointment upon purchase. A direct message usually takes 24 hours to answer. For multiple years we have sold antique items globally, please expect our items to show relevant age and natural wear, Items only restored due to breaks and major loss, and we always stipulate this in our condition report.
